Thanks for the video. It sure brings back some good memories. I served on Her from August '83 to August '84. I got to go on Her last Westpac and grew up a lot that year. Those of us on Her at that time share a unique history, we ran aground in Hawai'i while headed out on Westpac. I left right after returning to San Diego and went to ET school then on to Guam to the NAVCAMS station as a crypto ET.

Oil King of the Tommy Tinker proudly serving the US on the Tommy Tinker under not so nice Chief Engineer Lt Schaubel, working some hard and crazy hours with the rest of B Division under very hot steamy noisy and quite demanding conditions. Member of "OUR" armed forces teams during the Viet Nam evacuations (*HINT* contrary to Mr Hussein saying "MY" Team took BinLadden down, when it was "OUR" guys of the Elite Special Forces the Navy Seals not "MY" team haha). Such a Sad sight to see her taken to the scrap yard but proud to have served aboard.

Had shore patrol duty at the China Beach Party. Purtell "Quinnie have I got a job for you". One of the best beaches in the world aqua water, 88 degrees, no surf to speak of. Almost fell in the drink returning to the ship. Saved by some unremembered boatswains mate.

Diego Garcia screen porch for an EM club. Stupid people throwing coconuts on the roof to startle the in country vets.
So many coconut crabs under the trees that when they move it looked like the ground was moving.

This message was sent on Thu 3/15/12 4:53 AM. Sharon asked for it to be shared with our crew.

Dear USS Navy veterans,

As your ship was involved in "Operation Frequent Wind" in 1975, I wanted to let you know of an event taking place on April 21, 2012, at the Crystal Cathedral, Garden Grove, California. It's called "Vietnamese Americans, The Lucky Few", and it will pay tribute to the US and Vietnamese Navy personnel who were a part of the fleet of Navy ships during "Operation Frequent Wind" in 1975, saving the lives of two hundred thousands of Vietnamese refugees.

This event expands upon the success of a 2011 event which included a screening of the Navy documentary, "The Lucky Few".

Amongst the speakers will be Vice Admiral Adam M. Robinson, Jr. (Ret) (36th Surgeon General of the Navy), Capt. Paul Jacobs (Ret) (USS Kirk, DE/FF 1087), along with entertainment (see flyer).

Please forward this information to your shipmates who may be interested. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me: trangsharon at yahoo dotcom; or Alain Truong, gogreen2088 at yahoo dot com, or Capt. Paul Jacobs (Ret), USS Kirk, usskirk1087 at yahoo dot com.

We are looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Best Regards,

Sharon Nicholas

Hello to all veterans who were in Thomaston, I saw your pictures and are very good, and their meetings are more than good on together. I am an employee of the Port of Brownsville Tx, the company I work I think I buy the boat and we are dismantling alomejor be sad for you this but now carry more than half of the unarmed boat I'm in the boat pulling out all beds, lockers and cutting electrical cable, I have some things we will find old who were on the boat as they were hidden by the very interesting that there is ami I like the story and I always wonder who would these things and now I found this page you would like to contact me very interested if they see things I can take pictures, I wire up we will find a cup a day with Barney's name and logo is a cat boat with the crocodile, and one day I I found that I liked most is a blue cap with a metal eagle in the center was inside an air duct and watch the pictures and you're wearing as in 1960, also notes that some wires were down in the floor of the rooms where they kept the ammunition of the 3 "50 is a note that is the description of the bullets in 1954 and is well-thought has direction of McAlester, Oklahoma
