This message was sent on Thu 3/15/12 4:53 AM. Sharon asked for it to be shared with our crew.

Dear USS Navy veterans,

As your ship was involved in "Operation Frequent Wind" in 1975, I wanted to let you know of an event taking place on April 21, 2012, at the Crystal Cathedral, Garden Grove, California. It's called "Vietnamese Americans, The Lucky Few", and it will pay tribute to the US and Vietnamese Navy personnel who were a part of the fleet of Navy ships during "Operation Frequent Wind" in 1975, saving the lives of two hundred thousands of Vietnamese refugees.

This event expands upon the success of a 2011 event which included a screening of the Navy documentary, "The Lucky Few".

Amongst the speakers will be Vice Admiral Adam M. Robinson, Jr. (Ret) (36th Surgeon General of the Navy), Capt. Paul Jacobs (Ret) (USS Kirk, DE/FF 1087), along with entertainment (see flyer).

Please forward this information to your shipmates who may be interested. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me: trangsharon at yahoo dotcom; or Alain Truong, gogreen2088 at yahoo dot com, or Capt. Paul Jacobs (Ret), USS Kirk, usskirk1087 at yahoo dot com.

We are looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Best Regards,

Sharon Nicholas
FAPACSW CEO

I'm also sorry to here Jerry Eichler made his final voyage,he was a friend of mine and a good guy. Has anyone heard from or been in contact with William F. Abbott MM3,he was still aboard when I got discharged in 68". I have some very fond memories of my service.

I am an employee of the Port of Brownsville Tx, the company I work I think I buy the boat and we are dismantling alomejor be sad for you this but now carry more than half of the unarmed boat I'm in the boat pulling out all beds, lockers and cutting electrical cable, I have some things we will find old who were on the boat as they were hidden by the very interesting that there is ami I like the story and I always wonder who would these things and now I found this page you would like to contact me very interested if they see things I can take pictures, I wire up we will find a cup a day with Barney's name and logo is a cat boat with the crocodile, and one day I I found that I liked most is a blue cap with a metal eagle in the center was inside an air duct and watch the pictures and you're wearing as in 1960, also notes that some wires were down in the floor of the rooms where they kept the ammunition of the 3 "50 is a note that is the description of the bullets in 1954 and is well-thought has direction of McAlester, Oklahoma

Made my last WESPAC tour on the Tommy in 1969-70. Assigned to "M" Division. Was author of the infamous "Hagevap Herald". McColley though it was "really groovy". Often wonder how McColley, Flowers, Martin, Dell, Roberts, etc. are doing.

My father, Jerry L Eichler, served on the USS Thomaston, I believe between 1965-1969. He was very proud of his time in the US Navy, but spoke little of it. Daddy passed away July 16, 2011. We are trying to compile a history book of his military time. If anyone remembers him, has pictures or any information. If you would email me, I would so greatly appriciate it. Thank you all for your service to our great country.

I am trying to get in touch with any crew members that was stationed aboard the Thomaston during the time it was in the Yards in Seattle. Todd Shipyard 1977 through 1978. I need buddy letters stating the fact that we removed all the asbestos wraped pipes and also about the dust that came from the grinders while stripping the ship. Also if anyone remembers when John Dorner dropped the shackle on my head while we were doing boat ops during sea trails, I need that information also.

Thanks

To all that attended the Denver reunion and supported the USS Thomaston, Thank You. Our host and hostess this year were Jerry and Jacky McDermott and while hosting the reunion here youngest son was waiting for a kidney transplant, well the good news is that Wed after the reunion he got one and is doing fine, send the McDermott's a short note. I also just found out the Mr Boyle passed away, but I guess it was back in 2007, he was the "M" division officer while I was a board.
