Just watched the video of the TomCats final voyage. Seeing her as a ghost ship is hard. She was a good ship. I spent 51 months on her that I will never forget. I will try to make a future reunion. Hope all the crew really likes the video.

Made my last WESPAC tour on the Tommy in 1969-70. Assigned to "M" Division. Was author of the infamous "Hagevap Herald". McColley though it was "really groovy". Often wonder how McColley, Flowers, Martin, Dell, Roberts, etc. are doing.

My father, Jerry L Eichler, served on the USS Thomaston, I believe between 1965-1969. He was very proud of his time in the US Navy, but spoke little of it. Daddy passed away July 16, 2011. We are trying to compile a history book of his military time. If anyone remembers him, has pictures or any information. If you would email me, I would so greatly appriciate it. Thank you all for your service to our great country.

I am trying to get in touch with any crew members that was stationed aboard the Thomaston during the time it was in the Yards in Seattle. Todd Shipyard 1977 through 1978. I need buddy letters stating the fact that we removed all the asbestos wraped pipes and also about the dust that came from the grinders while stripping the ship. Also if anyone remembers when John Dorner dropped the shackle on my head while we were doing boat ops during sea trails, I need that information also.

To all that attended the Denver reunion and supported the USS Thomaston, Thank You. Our host and hostess this year were Jerry and Jacky McDermott and while hosting the reunion here youngest son was waiting for a kidney transplant, well the good news is that Wed after the reunion he got one and is doing fine, send the McDermott's a short note. I also just found out the Mr Boyle passed away, but I guess it was back in 2007, he was the "M" division officer while I was a board.

On Thomaston from 1965-67. Deployed for 2/3 of the time. Does anyone know what happened to XO Cdr Hexter Williams, a fascinating individual. Or to Capt O"neill, a real Sailor after a string of timeserving airdales.

I just signed the "reef project" petition. I sure do hope the Tomcat gets it's due reward. The idea of her being cut up for scrap metal doesn't set well with me. I was a Private First Class Browning Automatic Rifleman (BARman) on a Battalion Landing Team float out of Okinawa aboard Tom in 1960. We went to Kaohsiung, Taiwan and Hong Kong, and then she dropped us off at Subic Bay where we would spend six weeks. I sailed on about fourteen or fifteen different ships during my 28 year career in the Marine Corps and the USS Thomaston was (and is) my all-time favorite. Great ship, great crew, great times. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. I even wrote a short story about a funny thing that happened on her in Hong Kong during our cruise.

I was looking at the USS Thomaston 74-75 cruise book photos. I loved the pictures, Do you remember Tarwater Pinckhincey, or 2nd Lt Linder? Yes Major Gallagher was strict officer but very professional. He taught me a lot in becoming a good marine corps officer.

Stay in touch, I hope we can get in contact with some of our other marine serving on the Thomaston 74-75.
